Handmaid (“we”, “us”) is a classical Catholic homeschooling companion designed and created by CAIRO Solutions. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the rights you have over it under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA (collectively, “California privacy law”).
Account data: your name and email address, used to create and secure your login. Authentication is provided by the Base44 platform and optional Google sign-in.
Profile data: details you share during onboarding (family situation, lifestyle, and assistant-personalization preferences) and your weekly hour goal.
Content you create: children’s names and grade levels, school tasks and schedules, household routines, important dates, and messages you send to the Handmaid assistant. This content is linked to your account and visible only to you (and administrators).
Usage data: basic, aggregated analytics about how the app is used, and standard technical logs needed to operate the service.
To provide the homeschooling, scheduling, and assistant features you requested.
To remember your preferences and keep you signed in across sessions.
To improve the app through aggregated, de-identified analytics.
To send service-related messages (such as password reset) when necessary.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to train external models.
Consent: for optional analytics and assistant personalization, which you can withdraw at any time.
Contract: to run the features of your account.
Legitimate interests: to secure the service and keep it functioning.
Legal obligation: where retention is required by law.
Data is stored and processed on the Base44 platform (our hosting and database provider). When you use Google sign-in, Google processes your authentication. The optional voice assistant uses ElevenLabs, and web fonts are served by Google Fonts. These providers process data only as necessary to deliver their service to us, under their own privacy and data-protection terms.
We use essential local storage to keep you authenticated and remember your choices (such as theme and consent). Optional analytics may use storage or cookies. On first visit you can accept or decline non-essential storage; your choice is remembered on this device. You can revisit the consent choice by clearing site storage.
We keep your content for as long as your account is active. You can export or permanently delete all your data at any time from the Account → Data & Privacy page; deletion is irreversible. Some technical logs may be retained briefly for security and abuse prevention.
Under GDPR you may request: access to your data, rectification, erasure (“right to be forgotten”), data portability, restriction of processing, and objection to processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
Under California privacy law, if you are a California resident you may: know what personal data we collect and with whom we share it; request deletion of your data; correct inaccurate data; and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share your data for such advertising, so no opt-out is needed. You may also limit the use of sensitive personal information; we use it only to provide the features you request.
To exercise any right, use the export and delete tools in the app, or contact us through the Account page or by replying to your registration invitation.
Handmaid is a tool for parents and guardians. The names and grade levels of children you enter are provided and controlled by you as their parent or guardian, for the purpose of managing their education. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data directly, contact us and we will delete it.
Your data may be processed outside your country of residence by the providers listed above. We rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where required for such transfers.
Access to your data is restricted by row-level security so that other users cannot see your records. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, but no system can be guaranteed fully secure.
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The “Effective” date above reflects the current version.
